Dear Church of the Open Bible,
I can’t wait to get older. The target age I’m looking forward to is 65-85 years old. My kids wonder at this. My wife wonders at this. Even folks in that age group wonder at this! And if you know me, you’ll know that I’m not just saying this. Growing older is not for the faint of heart. Grief and sorrow increase the longer we spend in this broken world. Pain increases the longer we spend in these broken bodies. Come Lord Jesus!
But if our God uses grief and sorrow and pain to make us more like Jesus, if each passing day is evidence of His love and grace towards us, if we will need eternity to declare His faithfulness, surely a few more years can help. And boy do I need help!
I’m looking forward to receiving a heart of wisdom, more patience, increased love for others, and a confidence in God born from years of experiencing His faithfulness through His word.
So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom. - Psalm 90:12
We are blessed as a church by many of you who are further along in your walk with Jesus. This is the beauty, and wisdom, of the family of God. We want to number our days like you and to grow in wisdom as we consider how best to use the time God has given us.
May we be faithful and fruitful as we grow in God’s grace, day by day, month by month, year by year!
