Weekly Update

Dear Church of the Open Bible,

This past week, we met with the “Koleba” side of our family to celebrate Christmas in Delburne. It was a time full of good food, games, and catching up. It also included a slideshow. But not a computer-generated slideshow. My mom got out our old slide-projector, and we went through three “rings” of slides from the early days of my parent’s marriage and our childhood, but another thing that made this slideshow different, is that 3-4 times, my mom took a moment to pause on a slide, and tell a story. One was about an unexpected gift from a stranger for a needed flight and another was about a family member coming to Christ. Another one was about stepping out in faith as a church and seeing God provide. She wrapped it up by pointing us to Psalm 78, and how it is their responsibility as grandparents to recount the many ways God has been faithful to us in the past.

I will open my mouth in a parable;

    I will utter dark sayings from of old,

things that we have heard and known,

    that our fathers have told us.

We will not hide them from their children,

    but tell to the coming generation

the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,

    and the wonders that he has done.  - Psalm 78:2-4

I encourage you to use this time to share at the end of the year, to recount the many wonders of the Lord. It doesn’t have to be in the form of a slideshow. You can write things down or draw pictures. Take time to do this individually but also share it with others, as you have opportunity. We serve a mighty and wonderfully, loving God. Let’s spread the word.
