Weekly Update

Dear Church of the Open Bible,

Yesterday was “Royalty Night” at our Awana Children’s Ministry. The kids were dressed up with crowns, robes, tiaras, and even the odd scepter. Some were loud rulers, while others led with a quiet dignity. Some moved with an excited energy, while others were more reserved. But what’s most encouraging is seeing past the costumes and listening beneath the chaos. The warmth of being welcomed by their small group leader. The wonder at being asked about their week. The excitement at being acknowledged for their work. It was refreshing for me to see how genuine they are.

Jesus valued kids. He would’ve smiled and welcomed them on Tuesday night. And he would’ve challenged us older folks with them as an example:

“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  - Matthew 18:3-4

There is a requirement for people to enter the kingdom of heaven. There is a requirement for you and me to experience a relationship with King Jesus. And that requirement is seen in children. What is parallel to the phrase “turn and become like children” in Jesus’ next sentence? “Whoever humbles himself like this child…”

Does your life reflect the humility of a child in how you approach Jesus? Is that the posture you have coming to church on Sunday? Is that your attitude in prayer or in reading the Bible? If it’s not, come out and take in a Tuesday night here at church. Prepare for some noise, but more than that, prepare to be taught.

In Christ,

Pastor Jeremy
