Church Update

March 04, 2026

Dear Church of the Open Bible,

Our family enjoyed some time away recently, visiting Brittany’s parents in Maui. Jovi is graduating this year, so we’re not sure how many more opportunities we’ll have together before everyone starts spreading out. It was a good time to catch up with one another, do some reading, and enjoy the ocean. Maui is beautiful. The temperature is consistent, the beaches are quiet, and perhaps best of all, there are no mosquitoes. But there is another wonder in all of this. Somehow, people in Maui still get irritated, impatient, and even angry! I can personally attest to this.

We tend to think that the solution to our problems (whatever they may be) is a change of scenery. If only I had less responsibility, if only I had more money, if only I could look at the ocean every day, then my soul would be at rest. But that is a lie. Our souls will only ever find satisfaction in one place.

As a deer pants for flowing streams,

so pants my soul for you, O God.

My soul thirsts for God,

for the living God.  - Psalm 42:1-2b

Lasting satisfaction for our souls doesn’t come from being in the right circumstances but from being in a right relationship with God. And that is only available through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Maui is beautiful, but ultimately can’t satisfy the longing of our hearts. What are you thirsting for today?

In Christ,

Pastor Jeremy
