Weekly Update -July 22

July 22, 2026

Dear Church of the Open Bible,

In our prayer meetings on Wednesday night, we are looking at the prayers we find in Scripture, taking them as our instruction as we pray. One of the prayers we looked at was in Nehemiah 9. It’s the longest recorded prayer in Scripture, as much of it records the history of God’s faithfulness to Israel. But it is interesting how similar it is to the other prayers we find in Scripture, especially in how it begins.

“You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.”  - Nehemiah 9:6

Here we have some of the main reasons we worship the Lord. The prayer starts with a declaration of God’s holiness, that He is set apart and Lord above all. Then it moves to acknowledge how He is holy. He is the creator of everything. The stars, the land, and the seas, and the creatures that live on both of them, are made by the Lord. But not only is He the creator of life, He is the sustainer or preserver of life as well. And this is the reason all creation worships the Lord.

Take a moment to acknowledge the Lord as the only Holy, Creator, and Sustainer of life. Everything we see ultimately comes from Him. He is worthy of our worship. So praise Him and then wonder that He should choose to reveal Himself to you and provide a way for you to have a relationship with Him through His Son. Praise the Lord!

In Him,

Pastor Jeremy
