Weekly Update - August 5

August 5, 2026

Dear Church of the Open Bible,

There are a lot of things that I remember as fixtures in my family growing up. Chicken drumsticks-and-rice casserole was a regular meal, and it was delicious. Another constant was having a family from church over for lunch on Sundays. But one fixture that I remember clearly, is waking up in the morning and seeing my dad kneeling over the side of my parents bed in prayer. It’s an image I can still recall to this day, and it reminds me of Daniel.

He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.  - Daniel 6:10b

This past Sunday, we were encouraged to acknowledge the Lord’s sovereignty and conform to His purposes. Physical postures, like kneeling, do not guarantee spiritual postures, like humility, but they can remind and instruct our souls. Bending the knee outwardly, prompts me to consider my submission inwardly before God.

So how did applying the sermon go for you this week? One day, every knee will bow before the Lord. Let’s get used to it now. May that spiritual posture of submission and reception be a fixture in our lives individually and as a church.

In Him,

Pastor Jeremy
