Dear Church of the Open Bible,

One of the main goals Brittany and I have as parents is to show our kids that we love them and will always love them. This doesn’t mean that we don’t discipline or correct them, for that is part of loving them well. But it does mean that what we say and do should point to, and establish the fact, that we will never stop loving them. Unfortunately, there are still times where they question our love; where they do not feel assured of our love for them.

This is not just the experience of children with their human parents, but also of God’s children, those trusting in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sin. We can, at times, wonder whether God loves us. We can struggle with experiencing assurance of His love and our salvation. Maybe you are there today. Let me encourage you to confess your sins and trust the promises of God in Jesus Christ. His Word is more sure than the rising and setting of the sun. Recall Jesus’ words and cling to them,

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.  (John 5:24)

This is assurance and it is available. It is sweet to know and experience that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. May we trust His Word about us today.
