Dear Church of the Open Bible,

Last week, Brittany and I were able to connect with other AGC (Associated Gospel Churches) pastors and their wives from BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. We are not a big group compared to some denominations but it was good to be refreshed: learning together and encouraging one another. It reminded me of a situation in Acts, where persecution had spread the gospel throughout the Roman Empire, outpacing the missionary trips of the apostles. One such place was Antioch. The gospel of Jesus Christ was preached to Gentiles there and many turned to the Lord. Upon hearing this, the church in Jerusalem sent Barnabas to Antioch. Listen to Luke’s description of Barnabas’ response:

“When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose…”  (Acts 11:23)

I’m excited about our church. I’m excited about God’s grace working among us by His Spirit. But it is good to be reminded that we are not alone. It is good to be reminded that Christ is building His church in Ponoka and other towns and provinces around us. So how do you respond to seeing God’s grace in other churches? Are you glad? Do you pray for and encourage those believers to remain faithful and steadfast to our purpose of making disciples? By God’s grace, we are a part of something much bigger than ourselves!
