Dear Church of the Open Bible,
I just arrived home from the funeral of a college friend. She trusted the Lord and was well-loved, but what stood out for us as we remembered her, was her commitment to friendship. As a single, thirty-eight-year-old woman, Katie pursued friendship by writing hundreds of postcards and spending her holidays visiting friends. She knew the names of our kids and dozens more. How she practiced friendship was unique to where the Lord had placed her and how He had gifted her. But the fact that Katie was committed to friendship must not be unique. No, rather it’s biblical.
Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend… - Proverbs 27:10a
There is great blessing for those who trust the Lord in not only providing good friendship but being one. There is a sharpening of character, a softening of the heart, and a satisfying joy in the fellowship of those committed to one another in the Lord. So what does that look like in your life? How are you pursuing friendship? The summer is a great opportunity to grow in relationship with others. Thank the Lord for where He has you and make some plans to be a good friend. You won’t regret it.
