We are surrounded by so many options these days, so much variety. When my kids are bored, I might present over five good ways they can spend their time and they still want more. From ice cream flavours to tv shows to gender identity, society paints our lives as ones of unlimited customization and choice. But Scripture is much simpler and realistic.
“See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse…” - Deuteronomy 11:26
Moses presents to Israel the consequences of the only two options that really matter. He will elaborate on them more fully near the end of the book but ultimately there are only two ways to live. The first way is to live in reliance on God. This is the way we were created and how we experience the most freedom. The second way is to live in rebellion against God. This is the way each of us begin life and choose in ourselves. The consequence of this second way is the curse of being cast out from the presence of God, culminating in death and eternal separation. The consequence of the first way is the blessing of being restored to a relationship with God, culminating in abundant and eternal life. So don’t be distracted by the flavours and pseudo-sovereignty offered to you. Choose life by relying on God’s provision in Jesus Christ!
