The rising cost of living, wildfires, the war in Ukraine, abortion, the erosion of the family, and political polarization are just a few of the things that dominate our news feeds these days. It can be easy to be overcome by what we see going on around us. And while these are serious issues, we have to remember that panic sells and alarmism is not the disposition of a mature believer.

“For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever.   He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD.” - Psalm 112:6–7

In the next verse, the psalmist goes on to describe this righteous person as one whose “heart is steady.” How is your heart these days? Is it firm or flighty? Is it steady or sporadic? A firm and steady heart is saturated in the truth of who God is and His promises. It is established in the hope that springs from the gospel and gratitude for God’s faithfulness. May we respond to the multitude of concerns around us with compassion and truth, but not before we first anchor our hearts in the Lord, trusting Him.
